NEW YORK, NY.- Swann Auction Galleries will host an exceptional auction of 19th & 20th Century Prints & Drawings on March 6th, featuring a diverse selection of works by American and European masters. The auction will feature the best showing of Matisse prints by Swann to date, as well a strong selection of early Picasso works.

Additional highlights include:

· A selection of works by Martin Lewis, including his Relics (Speakeasy Corner), depicting the intersection of Charles Street and West Fourth Street in Greenwich Village (estimate: $25,000 to $35,000). This was Lewis's most popular print during his lifetime and it remains one of his most sought after prints today.

· As noted, a wide selection of Early Picasso works, including his Tête de femme, de profil (estimate: $25,000 to $35,000), a superb impression (one of 28) of a scarce drypoint by the artist.

· Kathe Kollwitz’s Krieg, an incredibly scarce, complete set of 7 woodcuts, at auction for the first time (estimate: $30,000 to $50,000).

· Matisse (after) Odalisque au coffret rouge , a brilliant, richly-inked impression with vibrant color (estimate: $30,000 to $50,000), highlighting an impressive offering of Matisse prints. According to Swann’s Director of Prints & Drawings Todd Weyman, ’afters’ such as this are seeing a great deal of demand in the market right now.

Coming up on April 29th is a strong auction of Old Master Through Modern Prints, offering a tremendous opportunity to own rare, museum-quality Old Master art and 19th and 20th century works.

Highlights include:

· Several strong landscapes by Rembrandt, among them, his Landscape with the Milkman, circa 1650 (estimate: $30,000 to $50,000). Offering a seldom-seen glimpse of a 17th century Hollandish landscape, this work has not been offered at an American auction in 17 years.

· Patientia (Patience), after Pieter Bruegel The Elder (estimate: $15,000 to $20,000), a very scarce engraving created by Pieter van der Heyden and published by Hieronymus Cock in the style of Bruegel in 1557, depicts a woman chained to a block, with monstrous creatures in varying gruesome acts dance around her. Van der Heyden was often commissioned by Cock to produce engravings of works after famous painters, such as Bruegel. These engravings were the only way most people would be able to experience Bruegel’s works. No other impression of Patientia has been seen at auction in the last 25 years.
