LONDON.- Approximately 300 lots will be included in specialist Arthur Millner’s forthcoming online auction of Islamic, Indian, Himalayan and South East Asian Works of Art. This will be his third auction to be held at the hub of specialist auctioneers at 25 Blythe Road over the last twelve months. The sale will include sculptures, paintings, textiles, ceramics and metalwork.

A particular highlight is a spectacular Burmese carved and gilded wood narrative relief, above. The fact that the scenes depict secular ceremonial rather than religious scenes, suggest that this is likely to have come from the Palace in Mandalay, following its capture by the British in 1886. Dating from the mid-19th century, this richly carved monumental architectural sculpture is the property of the pianist Philip Fowke who inherited it from a relative in North Norfolk in the 1980s. This has an estimate of: £4000-6000.

Another unusual lot is an oil on canvas self portrait from a private London collection, by the Parsi artist Pestonjee Bomanjee (1851-1938). Pestonjee Bomanjee was one of the first portraitists to have trained at the Bombay School of Art, and he himself became a teacher there in 1894. The portrait is signed and dated 1933, and has an estimate of £12,000-15,000.

Also strongly represented are a selection of bronze images, ritual objects and paintings from the Buddhist Himalayas, and a large group of drawings and paintings from India.
