LONDON.- Beijing-based filmmaker and artist Ran Huang's latest work The Administration of Glory has been selected as one of the nine films to compete for the Short Film Palme d'Or in the 67th Festival de Cannes. At the age of 31, Ran Huang is the first representative from China since 1965 to be shortlisted for the esteemed Palme d'Or and is the sole representative from China to participate in the competition this year.

This year the Selection Committee received 3,450 short films, representing 128 countries. Palme d'Or is known for the stringent selection process and is at the forefront of showcasing the highest quality and innovation in film production today. Ran Huang’s film will be premiered in the festival and will be competing for the Short Film Palme d'Or. The final award is to be presented by President of the Jury, legendary director Abbas Kiarostami at the Awards Ceremony of the 67th Festival de Cannes on Saturday, May 24th.

Creating a swirl of conflicting emotions and subjugation of power, Huang's films often exhibit tensions between surface of image and story, where beautiful, ‘perfect’ images serve as a mendacious façade for the shattered moral inextricability of the characters depicted. The Administration of Glory brings together five parallel narratives covering themes of deception, theft and violations both sacred and mundane.

The film’s executive producer Richard Chang describes his passion for this project in a statement: “I am proud to be a part of Ran Huang's team to make this short film, and extremely grateful to the Selection Committee for the chance to participate in this prestigious film festival." Chang is an international art collector, philanthropist and founder of the Domus Collection. The Administration of Glory is a Ran Huang Studio Production, presented by Ran Huang Studio and Long March Space, Beijing.

Simon Lee Gallery , London, will be exhibiting a solo show of Ran Huang's work in September.

Ran Huang (b.1982 in Xichang) lives and works in Beijing. In 2004, Huang graduated from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design with a First Class BA (Hons) Fine Art degree. In 2007, Huang gained his MFA Fine Art degree at Goldsmiths College, London. Huang has participated in numerous international exhibitions at leading institutions such as UCCA, Beijing (2013), Kino der Kunst, Munich (2012), Kunst Museum. Bonn (2011), Central Academy of Art, Beijing (2014), Today Art Museum, Beijing (2011) and the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston (2012) amongst biennial and triennial participation. Huang was one of the 16 artists presented by the European Media Artists in Residency Exchange (EMARE) 2009 programme, supported by European Culture Programme and Art Council
