SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.- The San Francisco Art Institute, faced with fiscal problems that have surfaced over the past six months or so, has named Larry Thomas, the school’s vice president and dean of academic affairs, as interim president in the wake of president Ella King Torrey’s resignation last week. Hill college also announced Friday that Buchman Associates, a consulting firm headed by Lorne Buchman, former president of the California College of Arts and Crafts, will serve in the capacity of chief executive officer. An artist who headed the school’s printmaking department for more than a decade, Thomas will be in charge of the academic programs and deal with faculty and student matters. Buchman will oversee the school’s finances and long-range strategic planning.
