NEW YOEK.- An original photograph of three firefighters raising a US flag at the World Trade Center site has sold for $89,000 at auction. Christie’s auction house had estimated the photograph would sell for $5,000. The image, ’Firefighters at Ground Zero, September 11, 2001,’ was shot by Thomas Franklin, a photographer with The Record, of Hackensack, New Jersey. The photograph was a finalist in the prestigious Pulitzer journalism awards. The 14 inch-by-9.25 inch color photo is the only existing original print of the image. It was autographed by Franklin and the firefighters and was purchased by the owner of a New York pharmaceuticals company. The money will be divided between two charities designated by the firefighters and the North Jersey Media Group, which owns The Record.
