NEW YORK, NY.- Ryan Lee announces the launch of RLWindow, a dedicated exhibition space for video, installation, and performance at the gallery designed to engage High Line visitors through a window. The inaugural work on view, RedWoman91 by Martín Gutierrez, is a new site-specific, single-channel video made for RLWindow and is visible from the High Line on weekdays from 4-11PM, July 10 to July 25, 2014.
Through a limited window into the bedroom of Gutierrez, RedWoman91 juxtaposes the isolation and privacy of the digital age with its overt voyeurism. Using the tools of sharing and withholding in open media, Gutierrez touches on the ability of the #engineer to project a consciously composed image.
RLWindow features video, installation, and performance art for audiences to view it from a distance through the window. Capitalizing on the gallerys position overlooking the High Line and its visibility to the 4.6 million yearly visitors, RLWindow will show innovative, experimental, and collaborative projects by international, contemporary artists, both represented by the gallery and invited. By launching active programming in this site-specific space, the gallery will expand its mission to work with leading artists and curators. Programming will rotate every two to four weeks.
Forthcoming projects include work by Maria Antelman, Kevin Cooley, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Kakyoung Lee, Shin il Kim, Mai Yamashita+Naoto Kobayashi, Gabriel Lester, Joan Logue, Peter Sis, Sandy Skoglund, and Stephanie Syjuco.
