PHOENIX, AZ.- InFocus, the photography support organization of Phoenix Art Museum, will connect seasoned collectors and first-time bidders at PhotoBid 2014, the annual silent auction and preview exhibition. The works in the auction will be on view in the Museums Norton Photography Gallery beginning October 4-17. The online auction is now live, accessible at
http://photobid14.auction-bid.org, culminating in a live silent auction and reception on October 17.
Now in its sixth year, PhotoBid features more than 50 museum-quality photographic prints and photography books by critically acclaimed photographers, including those whose work has previously been exhibited at the Museum, in both solo exhibitions and group shows, including William Fuller, Jamey Stillings, David Emitt Adams, Barbara Bosworth, Keith Schreiber, Rebecca Najdowski, Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe. It also features work by compelling Arizona-based artists, including Werner Segarra For those new to collecting, PhotoBid offers a unique opportunity to acquire works that have been specifically selected for this curated exhibition by Rebecca Senf, PhD, Norton Family Curator of Photography at Phoenix Art Museum and Center for Creative Photography, the largest institution in the world devoted to preserving and researching North American photography.
Being a part of an event like PhotoBid is not only exciting, its personally rewarding, says Dr. Senf. Private collections are vital to museums in a time when financial support for the arts from the public sector is steadily diminishing. A silent and online auction like PhotoBid provides access to museum-quality work for both longtime private collectors, and gives an opportunity to encourage new collectors to discover the joys of collecting and the value it has not only on a personal level, but for their community. The museum-quality prints feature a variety of subject matter, style and media, at a range of starting bids, increasing access to great art at any budget.
Collectors can bid on works of art online, and attend the live silent auction and cocktail reception in the Museums Norton Family Photography Gallery, on Friday, October 17, 2014.
