Sarah Sudhoff: Supply and Demand.

SAN ANTONIO, TX.- Photographer Sarah Sudhoff presents her first solo exhibition with French & Michigan Gallery featuring her recent series Supply and Demand.

Turning to the politics of breastfeeding, Sudhoff pulls from her inability to produce enough milk for her then-young son as inspiration for documented performances, milk typologies, self-portraits, and sculpture. The milk serves as subject and metaphor for feelings of loss and failure experienced by so many mothers, while highlighting the way in which breastfeeding is highly medicalized and undeniably personal in contemporary American culture.

Sarah Sudhoff: Supply and Demand is accompanied by a publication designed and produced by French & Michigan with two essays and a dialogue between the artist and curator.

Presentation remains on view by appointment through October 11.

Sarah Sudhoff is a San Antonio based photographer and has exhibited nationally and internationally. Her series Repository was featured in Young Women in Art Photography at 3rd Ward Gallery in Brooklyn, New Art in Austin: 20 to Watch, and a solo show at Art League Houston. Sudhoff's series At the Hour of Our Death was first shown at DeSantos Gallery during Fotofest and was awarded the Magenta Foundations Flash Forward award. In 2012, she was selected by curator Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson for an Artpace residency. Sudhoff is also the recipient of a San Antonio Artist Foundation grant and most recently a Louis Comfort Tiffany grant.

Sarah Sudhoff is represented by French & Michigan Gallery.
