MEXICO.- Today we celebrate the 600th birth anniversary of Netzahualcóyotl, the poet king (1402-1472). His name means ’Hungry Coyote’ and was the son of the Chichimeca-Tezcocan king Ixtlixóchitl and Nahuatl princess Metlalcihuatzin. He was a great warrior, builder, philosopher, painter and poet. At the age of 16 his father was murdered. Fernando de Alva Ixtlixóchitl, his grand-son, wrote in his book ’Chichimeca History’ that Netzahualcóyotl killed 12 kings, participated in 30 battles, controlled 44 kingdoms, named generals 43 oh his sons and the 44th son he killed. Netzahualcóyotl said that there was only one God, whom he called ’Tloque Nahuaque’.
