LONDON, ENGLAND.- The discovery of a previously unknown portrait of Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton and patron of William Shakespeare, brings new light into Shakespeare’s sexual orientation, reported The Observer. The earl appears dressed as a woman in this portrait. The earl is believed to be the ’fair youth’ to which the writer’s early sonnets were addressed to. In the portrait Henry Wriothesley is wearing lipstick, rouge and an elaborate double earring. The painting just went on view at Hatchlands Park, a National Trust property in East Clandon, Surrey, where it was found.
