ARTIUM To Open in Vitoria, Spain

VITORIA, SPAIN.- ARTIUM is a museum of Contemporary Art, whose aim is to spread the current art by means of permanent and temporary exhibitions, and other parallel activities related to the creative exercise and deliberation. The Diputación Foral (Provincial Council) of Álava, owner of the Permanent Collection, has been the driving force that made possible the creation of ARTIUM. The museum is the outcome of decades of effort and dedication in the field of contemporary art.

ARTIUM, whose doors will open in April 2002, belongs to a generation of museums of contemporary art born with the new millennium. These museums have an important artistic legate and are devoted to spreading and bringing contemporary artistic expressions to the general public.

ARTIUM´s Permanent Collection, its program of temporary exhibitions and didactic activities, as well as all those parallel services offered by the museum are the tools to reach the above-mentioned objectives.

ARTIUM is part of the cultural axis of Vitoria-Gasteiz Medieval city centre and as well as of the net of Basque museums. It is one of the corner stones of cultural dynamism in Álava and the Basque Country in general.
