FLORENCE, ITALY.- A nine-month study by Maurizio Seracini reveals that the ’Adoration of the Magi’ by Leonardo da Vinci was painted in the most part by other artists. The work is on view at the Uffizi gallery in Florence. Seracini used X-ray, infra-red, ultraviolet and high-resolution digital photography to produce thousands of detailed images of the work. The Uffizi commissioned the study. Seracini stated, ’Most of the paint has been added later. This dark orange colour is the result of colour added later.’ Seracini said that Leonardo did create the figures and the composition and that the study allowed viewers to see ’incredibly beautiful under-drawing and see his creativity, see all of his ideas...That is the most sensational result, not how much paint was left originally.’
