PHOENIX, AZ.- The Board of Directors of the Musical Instrument Museum has named April A. Salomon as executive director. In her new role, Salomon will provide leadership and guidance in all aspects of the museum’s operations, working closely with the board to articulate and advance the museum’s mission and vision.

Salomon, who served as MIM’s acting director for the past six months, joined the museum in 2007 and assisted with the design, staffing, collection acquisition and launch of the $250 million museum. In her most recent position, she was responsible for strategically planning changes to the museum’s permanent galleries and special exhibitions, as well as overseeing the delivery of MIM’s exceptional guest experience. Salomon simultaneously managed five departments covering the guest service, public programs, exhibits, events and volunteer teams.

“I am delighted and honored to be appointed executive director of this world-class institution. My journey at MIM has already lasted seven years and I am thrilled about stepping into this role after having experienced so much of the museum’s history alongside a talented and dedicated team of colleagues and volunteer team members. I can’t imagine a better time and opportunity to lead MIM to a new level of success,” said Salomon.

Previously, Salomon worked for other cultural and educational institutions including the Heard Museum, Institute for Learning Innovation and the Smithsonian Institution. Prior to her work in the museum field, Salomon gained experience in the private sector with Intel and Hewlett-Packard.

“April has a longstanding history of excellent leadership at MIM and we are confident that she will be successful in advancing MIM’s mission going forward,” said Bob Ulrich, founder and board chairman of MIM.

Salomon earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of California, Davis, and a Master of Arts in museum studies from George Washington University.
