From Prairie to Field: Photographs by T. Evans

COLUMBUS, OHIO.- The Columbus Museum of Art presents today “From Prairie to Field: Photographs by Terry Evans,” on view through February 15, 2004. For over twenty years, nationally recognized photographer Terry Evans has explored and documented prairie environments throughout North America. Recently, Evans turned her lens to animal and plant specimens in the scientific collections of The Field Museum. Developed by The Field Museum in collaboration with Terry Evans, From Prairie to Field features forty stunning color ink jet photographs of prairie mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, insects, and plants. Merging the disciplines of art and science, Evans’s unusual still lifes provide viewers with a unique window into the impact of natural history.

Terry Evans, a nationally recognized and exhibited photographer, has been documenting North American prairies for over twenty years. In From Prairie to Field, Evans has turned her lens to the birds, plants, fish, reptiles, mammals, and insects that comprise The Field Museum’s scientific collections. This work is part of her ongoing exploration and documentation of American prairies and their ecology, use, abandonment, and recovery.

These exquisite photographs, beautifully printed using state-of-the-art Iris technology, demonstrate the variety of life present in prairie landscapes. Evans’ compelling large-format photographs invite visitors to explore the many textures of natural history collections in minute detail. This exhibition was developed by The Field Museum in collaboration with Terry Evans.
