VALENCIA, SPAIN.- Kosme de Barañano, director of the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) announced that the museum has acquired a total of 17 works of art by different artists from the 20th century with an investment of 3.5 million euros. The director stated that the goal was to put the works of Julio González in context with important artists. Among the works acquired are four by Picasso: Femme debout (1945), Musicien debout (1950), Viellard assis and Homme assis (1952) and Visage d´homme barbu (1962).
The IVAM also acquired works by Henri Matisse: Océanie, le ciel 1946-49. Other acquired works are by André Derain, Elizabeth Murray, Joaquín Torres-García. Six of these works were donated to the museum.
