ASPEN, CO.- The Aspen Art Museum presents Roberto Cuoghi’s da iḍā e piṅgalā a iḍā e iḍā o piṅgalā e piṅgalā, an exhibition that examines integral themes within the artist’s ongoing practice, including the history of metamorphosis, the challenges of representation, as well as the fluidity and hybridity inherent in identity.

The thirty-two work exhibition—a collaboration between the Aspen Art Museum and Le Consortium in Dijon, France—and its title, alludes to Cuoghi’s explorations of Assyrian language and rituals, revealing the Italian artist’s interest in how narrative and the act of translation can effect our understanding of not only history, but also the present moment.

Roberto Cuoghi (b. 1973, Modena, Italy; lives and works in Milan) is a multimedia artist working in painting, sculpture, digital animation, drawing, and sound. His solo exhibitions include presentations at the New Museum, New York (2014); the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2011); and the Institute of Contemporary Art, London (2008). His work has also been shown in important group exhibitions worldwide, including Collection Sandretto Re Rebaudengo: Have you seen me before?, Whitechapel Gallery, London, (2013); The Encyclopedic Palace, the 55th Venice Biennale, (2013); The Residue of Memory, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, CO (2012); 10000 Lives, Gwangju Biennale, Korea (2010); Skin Fruit, New Museum, New York (2010); Fare Mondi/Making Worlds, 53rd Venice Biennale, (2009); Fractured Figure, Deste Foundation Centre for Contemporary Art, Athens (2007); Sequence 1, Palazzo Grassi, Venice, Italy (2007); and Of Mice and Men, 4th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art (2006).

The Aspen Art Museum is also presenting Alice Channer’s outdoor sculpture project R o c k f a l l on the AAM’s third-level Roof Deck Sculpture Garden. R o c k f a l l is Channer’s first solo US museum exhibition. It will remain on view through Sunday, May 31, 2015.

Using industrial materials and “postindustrial” processes to make objects that mimic natural events, Channer’s AAM creation represents a horizontal rockfall—a series of seven manipulated, elongated rocks—positioned both as part of, and in direct contrast to, the vast mountain landscape surrounding the museum. R o c k f a l l continues Channer’s artistic exploration of the relationship between bodies and nature.

Alice Channer was born in 1977, Oxford, England, and lives and works in London. Her recent solo exhibitions include Synthetic Fibres at the Approach, London, United Kingdom (2014), and Soft Shell at the Kunstverein Freiburg, Germany (2013). She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at the Freidricianum, Kassel, Germany; Kestnergellschaft, Hanover, Germany; and Whitechapel Gallery, London. Channer’s work is included in the Arts Council Collection, the Tate Permanent Collection, and the Zabludowicz Collection. Channer participated in the 55th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, Il Palazzo Enciclopedico / The Encyclopedic Palace. R o c k f a l l is scheduled to travel to New York for an exhibition organized by the Public Art Fund in summer 2015.
