New Museo del Prado Law Approved Unanimously |
|

|
MADRID, SPAIN.- The Commission on Education and Culture of the Spanish Senate yesterday approved the new law to regulate the Museo del Prado. Miguel Zugaza, director of the Museo del Prado and Eduardo Serra, chairman of the board of the museum stated that it was a “historic” act. They both were happy that the law was approved unanimously. According to Zugaza, this is “a giant step in the modernization process and gives the museum the adequate tools to do this.”
Eduardo Serra commented that with this new law the Prado has the tools it needs to “be at the height of its art collection.” He stated that it was urgent that this la be passed. They now have three months for the rules of this new law to be established.
The different opposition parties stated that the new law was very important. Some were unhappy that there was no debate with all the Senate members, as it was approved in a committee. Senator Cristina Agudo from the PSOE stated that it was the most important cultural law they could approve and it was a shame that it was not debated widely.
The new law will come into effect in a few days after it is published in the State’s Official Bulletin.
