NEW YORK, NY.- Sculptor Don Gummer has become the latest in a series of renowned artists to participate in an ongoing public sculpture program sponsored by the Broadway Mall Association, by installing nine large scale works along the Broadway malls from Columbus Circle to 157th Street. The show, which runs through mid-October, is co-sponsored by the New York City Parks Department and the Morrison Gallery of Kent, Connecticut.

Beginning at Columbus Circle with a 10’ work titled “12-12-12” and ending at 157th Street with “After Rome,” Gummer’s Constructivist, modernist and architectonic sculptures in aluminum and stainless steel seem right at home in a city that is celebrated for its grand architecture. Based in New York, Gummer is considered one of the country’s most imaginative and inventive sculptors working today, creating work of compelling strength, authority and elegance, that is characterized by a masterful attention to craftsmanship and detail.

The Broadway Mall public art program began in 2005 with a groundbreaking exhibition by sculptor Tom Otterness, followed by shows featuring the work of such distinguished artists as Boaz Vaadia, Chakaia Booker, Peter Woytuk and Manolo Valdes, among others. An audio cell phone tour in both English and Spanish is available to people passing through the malls, enabling them to learn more about each sculpture and also leave comments.

Don Gummer was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. He subsequently received an MFA from Yale University. His work is currently represented by the Morrison Gallery.
