NEW YORK, NY.- Phillips New Now auction totalled $4,525,000 / £2,936,500 / €4,013,000 selling 85% by value and 70% by lot.

Several auction world records were established including one for Irish artist John Gerrard when his work, Oil Stick Work (Angelo Martinez, Richfield, Kansas), 2008 sold to a telephone bidder for $118,750 / £77,062 / €105,313, above its $8,000 low estimate.

“We were pleased to kick off the busy fall auction season with a solid sale. The market was selective this afternoon choosing works by mid-career and established artists. We also saw animated bidding for emerging artists including André Butzer, John Gerrard and Math Bass.” Rebekah Bowling, Phillips Head of New Now Auction.

Phillips’ clients were able to take advantage of the digital salesroom during the auction, attracting much interest with over 200 registered bidders for live bidding as well as around 75 mobile bidders using the recently launched IOS app.

Along with the ability to use a new platform through our partnership with eBay, bidders could also use the first-ever mobile live bidding and live streaming video platform. The new mobile offering enabled buyers to watch and bid during the auction from anywhere in the world from their iPhone or iPad, using WebRTC technology. Phillips is the first auction house with a mobile-optimized bidding channel.
