LONDON.- Steve McQueen’s 1934 Indian 750cc Sport Scout will go under the hammer at Bonhams 18 October Stafford Sale, alongside four trusty Hondas belonging to motoring personality, James May.

The two-day Autumn Stafford Sale is set to showcase a diverse range of more than 230 collectors’ motorcycles, including that of the late, great, Steve McQueen.

The epitome of style, ruggedness and adventure, McQueen is a motoring icon. His exploits were just as explosive off screen as they were on, himself admitting: “I’m not sure whether I’m an actor who races or a racer who acts.”

James Stensel, Head of Collectors’ Motorcycles at Bonhams said: “McQueen’s cars and motorcycles were the envy of many a collector, yet Indian was believed to be his favoured marque, and the 1934 Indian 750cc Sport Scout – now offered at an estimate of £55,000-65,000 – was one of Indian’s most successful models of the 1930s. Few machines boast such impressive ownership history, I can think of few other machines I personally would wish to own more.”

James May, a regular figure at Bonhams Stafford auctions, will offer his personal 1967 Honda CB450 'Black Bomber', estimate £4,800-5,600, a 1973 Honda XL70 Trail, estimate £2,000-2,500, a 1970 Honda PS50 Sports Moped, estimate £1,800-2,400, and a 1967 Honda P50 Moped, estimate £400-600.

Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale takes place 17-18 October at The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show, Staffordshire County Showground. The Lonati Collection will be sold on Saturday 17, commencing 15:00, and the Autumn Stafford Sale on Sunday 18 commencing 12:00 (midday).
