NEW YORK.- Diana D. Brooks, former chief executive of Sotheby’s, was sentenced to three years probation, six months of house arrest, fined for $350,000, and ordered to perform 1,000 of community service. Judge George B. Daniels of the Deferal District Court in Manhattan, stated, "You have traded your title of C.E.O. to be branded a thief. You have allowed yourself to go from respected to being ridiculed. The notoriety you have gained will outlive you...Although you have taken significant steps to mitigate your crime, the damage you have caused cannot be undone...let us not forget you did not volunteer..."Your decision was the right one, but it was not a noble gesture..it was self-serving rather than self-sacrificing." Ms. Brooks will wear an electronic bracelet while being on house arrest and be allowed out only for pre-approved exemptions like work or medical appointments. Ms. Brooks stated, "I would like to apologize to all the people I have hurt and to accept responsibility for what I have done. I will forever bear the burden for what I’ve done and will accept whatever sentence your honor will impose."
