NEW YORK, NY.- As part of its exhibition American Realism: Past and Present, the Cavalier Gallery has commissioned new works by contemporary artists Edward Minoff, Paul Oxborough, Douglas Wiltraut, Joel Carson Jones , Sarah Lamb, Max Ginsburg, Jennes Cortez, Rose Freymuth Fraizer, Li Xiao, and Joseph McGurl inspired by New York City in homage to the genre of American Realism.

In presenting this extraordinary survey of American Realist works, the Cavalier Gallery has created a historical show that highlights the importance and diversity of the American Realism Movement. American Realism: Past and Present is on view at Cavalier’s NYC gallery located at 3 West 57th Street, 4th floor, New York, NY, from October 15th through November 30th.

By juxtaposing historical pieces against contemporary realist works, this special collection of truly masterful paintings and renderings demonstrates the important influence Realism has had on America - not only by documenting historical scenes and subjects from a time before photography was widely used – but by showing how Realism continues to influence some of world’s greatest painters today. Though Realism’s traditional role may have changed since the advent of photography – this important genre will never fall out of favor. Artists will always continue to paint what they see in personal ways that clearly and cleverly, put their own “spin” on a subject, landscape or street scene - making each painting distinctive and unique. Realist paintings are always defined by each artist’s individual style and technical skill, and Realism enthusiasts understand and appreciate this.

This exhibition showcases historic works by great masters such as George Bellows, Thomas Hart Benton, Mary Cassatt, Gustav Courbet, Honore Daumier, Thomas Eakins, Sanford Gifford, William Glackens, John Gutman, Robert Henri, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, George Inness, Jean- Francois Millet, Maurice Prendergast, Norman Rockwell, James Abbott McNeil Whistler, J. Alden Weir and Grant Wood.

Along with the new works created by the aforementioned artists, other contemporary artists featured in this prestigious exhibition include Michael Aviano, Peter Poskas, Robert Zappalorti and several others.
