NEW YORK (AFP).- The final night of the autumn auction season in New York on Thursday had bids from buyers above estimates by auction house Christie's, but marked no sales records.

Paintings by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Alfred Sisley and Rene Magritte, and sculptures by Edgar Degas and Auguste Rodin went under the hammer.

The highest sale of the evening was "La Carafe (Bouteille et Verre)," a Picasso that went for $10.46 million.

The Cubist still life, painted in Paris in the winter of 1911-1912 and owned by a British national, was part of a lot whose owners had been guaranteed minimum prices.

Unlike previous nights, none of the artwork placed on the block had estimate prices in the $10 million or above range.

Two oil paintings, Paul Cezanne's "Pommes sur un linge" and Henri Matisse "Nu a la serviette blanche," sold for $9.12 million each, Christie's said.

As in previous auction sessions, several lots went unsold, including another Picasso, "Homme assis (Mardi gras)," a painting with estimated value of between $6 and $9 million.
