NEW YORK, NY.- The Metropolitan Museum of Art launched Season 4 of its online video series The Artist Project, in which artists respond to works from the Met’s vast collection that spark their imagination. The collection spans more than five millennia and cultures throughout the world. Season 1 of the series launched in March 2015. The 60 videos currently posted have had a total of more than 1.2 million views online to date.

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum, recently announced that a sixth season will be added to the series in late spring 2016, bringing the total number of artists participating in The Artist Project to 120.

Since its founding in 1870, the Met has been a place where artists go to gain inspiration from the art of their own time, and across time and cultures. The Artist Project shares with the public what artists today see when they look at the Met. Viewers will encounter a diverse group of artists who share their personal, passionate ways of seeing and experiencing art.

In March, when The Artist Project’s inaugural season was launched, Mr. Campbell commented: “We have spoken a lot lately about the Met’s interest in looking at contemporary art through the lens of our historical collections. The Artist Project gives you a glimpse of just what we mean when we talk about that kind of connected view of contemporary art. This innovative online series gives visibility to something we’ve known about the Met for a long time: it is a place of critical inspiration for working artists, often in unexpected ways. I’m excited to share these engaging and beautifully edited episodes with the public.”

Mr. Campbell added: “We are enormously grateful to Bloomberg Philanthropies for having the foresight to support this new online series as part of their Bloomberg Connects program. Their dedicated support helps deliver the Met experience around the world.”

With the addition of the sixth season, The Artist Project will now be presented in six seasons of 20 episodes each. Season 1 includes Cory Arcangel, John Baldessari, Nayland Blake, Nick Cave, Enrique Chagoya, George Condo, Walton Ford, Natalie Frank, Zarina Hashmi, Deborah Kass, Nina Katchadourian, Nicola López, Alexander Melamid, Izhar Patkin, Tom Sachs, Katrín Sigurdardóttir, Mickalene Thomas, Kehinde Wiley, Xu Bing, and Lisa Yuskavage.

Season 2, which launched on June 22, includes Roz Chast, Willie Cole, Teresita Fernández, Spencer Finch, Roland Flexner, Jeffrey Gibson, Y.Z. Kami, Il Lee, Glenn Ligon, Robert Longo, Nalini Malani, Kerry James Marshall, Mariko Mori, Robert Polidori, Rona Pondick, David Salle, Pat Steir, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sarah Sze, and Hank Willis Thomas.

Season 3, which launched on September 16, includes Vito Acconci, Ann Agee, Diana Al-Hadid, Ghada Amer, Luis Camnitzer, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Wenda Gu, Ann Hamilton, An-My Lê, Kalup Linzy, Vik Muniz, James Nares, Cornelia Parker, Sheila Pepe, Raymond Pettibon, Matthew Ritchie, Annabeth Rosen, Shahzia Sikander, and Thomas Struth.
