SAUSALITO, CA.- Headlands Center for the Arts announced the fifty-one artists and collaboratives who will participate in its renowned Artist-in-Residence program in 2016, including alumni who will receive project-specific support through Alumni New Works. The awardees receive fully sponsored, live-in residencies designed to sustain and develop their artistic processes. Additionally, recipients of the Larry Sultan Photography Award, Chiaro Award, and Chamberlain Award listed below will receive cash prizes.

Headlands' Executive Director sharon maidenberg said, "We are delighted to be welcoming this extraordinary group of creative practitioners to Headlands next year. They represent ten states, eighteen countries, and a vibrant diversity of practices. By working on their individual projects and regularly convening as a community over several weeks, we hope the artists will be inspired by one another and enjoy the freedom to conceive and create within our breathtaking setting."

All awardees will be at Headlands during one of three sessions (spring, summer, and fall) and are listed below by discipline.

Firelei Báez receives 2016 Chiaro Award
The Chiaro Award is a fully sponsored residency and $15,000 cash prize for an accomplished mid-career painter residing in the United States. Báez was announced as the 2016 recipient in October 2015, and will begin her residency in the fall.

Marco Breuer receives inaugural Larry Sultan Photography Award
Presented in partnership with Pier 24 Photography, California College of the Arts, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Larry Sultan Photography Award honors the unique vision of American photographer Larry Sultan by recognizing one photographer a year with a fully sponsored residency and a $10,000 cash prize. Breuer was announced as the 2016 recipient in September 2015, and will begin his residency in the spring.

Fernando García-Dory receives 2016 Chamberlain Award
The Chamberlain Award supports artists who display exceptional merit in the discipline of social practice and includes a fully sponsored residency and a $5,000 cash prize. García-Dory will begin his residency in the fall.

Brad Kahlhamer receives Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship, offered in partnership with the San Francisco Art Institute
Established in 1998 by the family of painter Richard Diebenkorn, an alumnus and longtime faculty member of San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI), the Richard Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship provides an opportunity for artists to teach at SFAI while having the time and financial support to create new work while in residence at Headlands.
