Vision Revealed: Selections of Abelardo Morell

MIAMI, FLORIDA.- The Frost Art Museum at FIU presents “Vision Revealed: Selections from the work of Abelardo Morell.” Abelardo Morell, a Cuban-American artist best-known for his photographs, will be displaying his works at the Frost Art Museum. Morell’s photographs have been exhibited and collected by major museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney, the Metropolitan and The Art Institute of Chicago. He is the recipient of both a Cintas and Guggenheim Fellowship. The exhibition will be on view from January 16th thru March 14th.

Florida International University’s new museum is being named for Patricia and Phillip Frost because of their longstanding support of The Art Museum at FIU and for their leadership in raising funds for this project. The Frosts contributed the naming gift and have been key in attracting other donors.

Patricia Frost’s affiliation with FIU dates back to 1984. She is a member of the FIU Foundation Board and has worked closely with the FIU College of Education. She has served as an adjunct professor at FIU and worked for the Miami-Dade County Public School System for 28 years, where she served as the principal for the West Laboratory School.

She received the Outstanding Educator of the Year award from FIU and has endowed a professorship in education and sociology. Patricia Frost has served as a trustee for the United Way of Miami and was elected chair of the Smithsonians’s National Museum of American Art Commission in Washington, D.C. and has served as museum commissioner since 1998.

Phillip Frost has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of IVAX Corporation since 1987. He was Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami, Miami Beach, Florida, from 1972 to 1990.

He is a former member of the FIU Board of Trustees and the FIU Foundation Board. In 1993, FIU presented Phillip Frost with an honorary degree for his many contributions in medicine, business, and community service.
