DALLAS, TX.- Dr. David A. Fischer, the physician for the Gold Medal-winning 1992 U.S. Olympic Basketball "Dream Team" — the greatest single grouping of basketball talent ever assembled — is auctioning off the memorabilia and mementos of his time with the team, including game worn and signed sneakers, team signed basketballs and his Olympic ring.

The material will be sold as part of Heritage Auctions' May 12-14, 2016 Sports Collectibles Catalog Auction.

"It's arguably the most significant offering of 'Dream Team' game used gear ever to surface in the collectible marketplace," according to Chris Ivy, director of Sports Auctions at Heritage. "Due to the brief existence of the team, and the enormous fame and wealth of its members, very little 'Dream Team' material has become available."

By the time USA Basketball called Dr. Fischer, he'd already enjoyed a long career, more than 25 years, at the highest levels of American sports as the team physician to the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and Timberwolves of the NBA. A chance to work with the 1992 US Olympic Basketball team, however, was too good a chance to pass up. This was, after all, the first time that the world's professional athletes were allowed to represent their respective countries at the Olympic games and the US basketball team was sure to be a team unequalled in the annals of athletic history.

"I've enjoyed these items and will always have the memories and friendships," said Dr. Fischer. "However, I think it's time to allow other basketball fans and collectors a chance to enjoy these as well. My family and I are hopeful the new owners will share our passion and continue to care for them with a similar love and respect."

Most notable among the contents of the Fischer Collection is a nearly full roster of game worn sneakers, many autographed with grateful messages from the legendary figures the doctor treated. Autograph collectors will be drawn to a pair of team signed basketballs, each so scarce that only team members and staff had access. A variety of Championship awards are likewise on offer, including a Gold Medal for the "Tournament of the Americas" and a ring representing the Gold Medal achievement at Barcelona.

"This is a rare opportunity to acquire such significant material from the Dream Team," said Ivy. "Like the team itself, there will never be another auction like this again."
