Architect Julian Neski, 76, Dies

NEW YORK.- Architect Julian Neski, 76, died. According to The New York Times: "Julian Neski, an architect whose modernist houses among the fields and dunes of the Hamptons were landmarks in weekend living, died on Jan. 8 at the Kateri Residence in Manhattan."

He worked with Peter Blake, Richard Meier and Charles Gwathmey, and defined a new direction in domestic architecture in the 1960’s and 70’s.

James Stewart Polshek, who worked with Neski in the 1960’s, stated: "He showed a passionate, hands-on commitment to the design process. He always drew every detail himself. He didn’t want to give that up to anyone else."

Julian Neski designed inexpensive houses and easy to maintain. He combined functionalist simplicity with sculpturally expressive form. Neski designed 35 escape houses.
