NEW ORLEANS, LA.- Recognized curator, author, and lecturer Anna Mecugni, Ph.D. has joined the Newcomb Art Museum as Curator and Coordinator of Academic Programming. She brings to the position extensive experience in teaching and academic programming, museum education, and curatorial work, as well as an enthusiasm for cross‐disciplinary dialogues and art practices.

“I am thrilled to envision stimulating new ways that Tulane’s students, faculty members, and community partners could benefit from the Newcomb Art Museum’s resources and programs to their greatest advantage,” says Mecugni. “Becoming a catalyst for a broad, meaningful integration of the museum’s offerings with the school’s curriculum is a very exciting prospect.”

Mecugni comes to Tulane from the Philadelphia Museum of Art where she served as an Exhibition Assistant in the Department of Contemporary Art. She has held curatorial positions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Venice Biennale, the James Gallery at CUNY, and the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College.

A native of Modena, Italy, Mecugni holds degrees in Art History from the Università degli Studi di Bologna, where she earned a B.A. and M.A., and from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where she received an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. with a specialization in the contemporary period.

She has taught Art History, Film Studies, and Italian language and culture courses at Vassar College, Temple University, and the University of Pennsylvania, where she was granted the Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Mecugni’s writings have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as The International Journal of the Humanities and Palinsesti: Contemporary Italian Art On-Line Journal, as well as trade publications including the 2007 Venice Biennale exhibition catalogue, Art in America, and artforum.com.

Most recently, she contributed as co-editor and author to the scholarly catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, published in conjunction with Yale University Press.
