LONDON.- Martin Klosterfelde is set to join
Sothebys European Contemporary Art team in September 2016, as Senior Director and Senior Specialist, based in London. Following a career which included two years with gallery owner Barbara Gladstone in New York, Martin Klosterfelde founded his own gallery in Berlin in 1996: KLOSTERFELDE.
KLOSTERFELDE focused on pioneering new artists as well as more established names: exhibitions there included solo shows for artists who now enjoy international acclaim including Hanne Darboven, Matt Mullican, John Bock, Christian Jankowski, Elmgreen & Dragset, Danh Võ and Lawrence Weiner. In addition, the gallery was a regular and frequent participant in renowned art fairs such as Art Basel, FIAC, Frieze, Art Basel Miami Beach, Independent and The Armory Show.
Martin Klosterfelde is distinguished as a founding member of Frieze Art Fair in London, as a member of the selection committee of Art Basel Miami Beach, and as co-founder of Gallery Weekend Berlin and art berlin contemporary (abc). In the summer of 2013, after 18 years and 104 exhibitions, Martin Klosterfelde closed his gallery and became Director and International Art Specialist at Phillips, based in Berlin. In 2016, he trained as an auctioneer. As Senior Director and Senior Specialist, he brings to Sothebys international Contemporary Art team in London the benefit of his extensive knowledge and experience in the acquisition of works of contemporary art.
Martin Klosterfelde will work alongside Bastienne Leuthe who was appointed Senior Director, Head of Contemporary Art Germany, earlier this summer.
