NEW YORK, NY.- The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been named the world's #1 museum in the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice™ awards for the second sequential year. TripAdvisor highlights the top museums around the world based on the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings, gathered over a 12-month period.

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Met, commented: "We're thrilled that The Met is the recipient of this major travel award for the second year in a row. It is especially gratifying since the award is based on feedback from our visitors themselves. The Met had record attendance in 2015 and 2016, with our annual visitor numbers recently topping 6.7 million. With collections and exhibitions that extend from ancient artifacts to contemporary art, and with our three locations—The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Cloisters, and the new Met Breuer—there is truly something for everyone at The Met."

"From revered art galleries to thought-provoking memorials, these Travelers' Choice award-winners showcase the best the world has to offer in culture, science, and history," said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. "Travelers planning to go to one of these top museums can save valuable time and have a better experience by booking special access tours or skip-the-line passes before they go."
