LONDON, ENGLAND.- BBC Four and the National Gallery have collaborated in creating television’s first interactive exhibition, ‘Painting The Weather’, bringing together paintings from fifty museums and galleries throughout the UK. This lively exhibition offers fun way into art from the Renaissance to the 20th century in collections across the country.
The centre of the project is the web exhibition allowing visitors to take their own virtual tour through 110 paintings, by more than eighty artists, portraying every aspect of the weather.
The exhibition is curated by the National Gallery, with special in-depth commentary on fifteen key works by its Director Neil MacGregor. Biographies of the artists, and further information on the paintings and galleries are available on the site. Weatherman Bill Giles gives his reading of the weather as depicted in many of the paintings.
