LONDON.- Annely Juda Fine Art is showing a selection of works by David Hockney, all of which utilise digital means to create the final image. The exhibition coincides with Hockney’s retrospective exhibition at Tate Britain from February 9th – May 29th 2017.

David Hockney has always vigorously embraced new technologies, whether it be the use of polaroid photography, the fax machine, photoshop, digital film or – more recently – the iPad. Using the ‘Brushes’ app on the iPad, Hockney enjoys the freedom of drawing ‘en plein air’ and the ability to go back to various ‘layers’ of his drawing process. Landscape scenes depict the changing seasons in Woldgate Woods in Hockney’s native Yorkshire or the dramatic landscape of Yosemite National Park, California. Meanwhile, Hockney’s Painting and Photography series use a mixture of photography, painting and photoshop and feature interior scenes and portraits in Hockney’s Los Angeles studio, further exploring Hockney’s career-long exploration of the illusion of space and what he calls "the tyranny of one-point perspective”.

David Hockney was born in Bradford in 1937. He graduated from the Bradford School of Art in 1957 and studied at the Royal College of Art from 1959–62. While there he met RB Kitaj and became instrumental in the founding of the British Pop Art movement. Hockney settled in Los Angeles in 1978.

He has been the subject of countless solo exhibitions worldwide including a major touring retrospective held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Tate Gallery, London in 1988.

Annely Juda Fine Art have represented David Hockney since 1996. Over many years David Hockney has been known for responding to new technological possibilities and has famously used ipad drawings, poloroid photography, faxed images and photocopying in his art.
