NEW YORK, NY.- The history making week on Wall Street last week sparked a buying frenzy on Italian artist Arturo Di Modica’s (Italian, b. 1941) bronze sculptures at Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques here in New York. Of course, Di Modica created the iconic life-size “Charging Bull” standing in Bowling Green Park in the Financial District downtown and has become a symbol of Wall Street.

The artist’s bronze 6 X 6 X 4 foot “Cavallo” (Horse) bronze 1981-1986. Vanity plaque included. Provenance: Purchased directly from the artist early 2000s, Private Collection, New York, sold to a prominent horse farm in Wellington, Florida for $16, 800, at Capo Auction’s January 28th auction, while Di Modica’s “Head of the Charging Bull”, New York 1989, Signed and dated. Dimensions 5 x 4 x 2.8 feet, Provenance: Acquired by present owner from the collection of Refreddo Gaetani in 2013, sold for $12,000.

Just after the auction ended on Saturday, Di Modica collectors from the U.K. contacted Capo Auction offering even higher bids, but were too late. They then asked to purchase additional Di Modica pieces the auction house has planned to include in their February 25th auction.

Items in other areas also sold well, with the top fine art seller of the day being a Louis Marcoussis (French, 1883-1941) - Untitled Composition. Oil on linen, 1930. Signed and dated lower right. Ameringer | Yohe Gallery label on the verso. Canvas size 23.75 x 31.8 inches. Provenance: Hans and Maria Hofmann Trust, which went for $33,000.

In jewelry, they sold a stunning Van Cleef & Arpels Diamond Pin - Platinum and 18k yellow gold pin set with marquise and baguette diamonds within an 18k yellow gold leafy frame, separates into two parts, 18k yellow gold frame, signed Van Cleef and Arpels, for $11,400 and a Chopard Imperiale Gold Watch - 18k yellow gold with mother of pearl dial, for $12,600.

Also featured was a Baccarat Crystal Chandelier, Neoclassical style, eighteen scrolled arms, hung with prisms and accented with bead ropes. Height 50 inches, diameter 40 inches, that went for $14,400 and an A. Walter, Nancy Pate de Verre Fox Bookends. Pate-de-verre glass figures with semi transparent yellow colour and fine hand finished surface detail, each modelled leaning against a flower draped lattice fence, signed. Height 6 1/4 inches, selling for $2280.
