LONDON.- To coincide with their return to the 45th Art & Antiques Fair Olympia from June 26th – July 2nd Harry Moore-Gwyn Fine Art Ltd will be selling over 20 works on paper by Sir George Clausen, some previously unseen. It will comprise landscape pastels and watercolours, figure and portrait studies, still lifes and sketches for larger works. The dealer discovered works done by the artist for his late mural commission for St Stephen’s Hall in the Palace of Westminster. Prices will range from under £1,000 to over £8,000. The catalogue will be available from a week or so before the fair and the works will be available for sale on the stand.

Harry Moore-Gwyn said of the works, 'Whilst his work on paper has always been highly sought-after, making as much as £500,000 at auction (for a pastel drawing of a girl in 2010), the majority of his landscapes, figure studies and sketches still represent astonishing value for money for the collector'.

Sir George Clausen is a key figure in the world of English Impressionism, one of the most significant British painters of the end of the nineteenth century who brought an element of sophisticated French style to British landscape painting. Trained at the South Kensington Schools in London and in Paris at the Académie Julian, he rose to become a leading Royal Academician, a founder of the New English Art Club and Professor of Painting at the Royal Academy. He was knighted in 1927. His paintings of English rural life are arguably the most evocative of their age.

Located in the elegant National Hall in London Olympia means that the Fair is extremely easy to get to from central London and the home-counties. There will be a free shuttle bus during the Fair between London Olympia and Sloane Square.

A Collectors’ Preview held on Monday 26th June, late openings, champagne bar and a specially created menu at Mosimann’s restaurant all combine to make the Fair a prestigious and must-attend event in London’s summer calendar.
