MADRID, SPAIN.- The vigorous and exhaustive work to re-catalogue the pictorial collection of the Real Academia de la Historia, which possesses 119 paintings, of which 14 are anonymous, undertaken by Alfonso E. Perez Sanchez, and his assistants Herbert Gonzalez Zymla and Leticia de Frutos Sastre, has offered spectacular results. The most compelling perhaps is the definite identification of a portrait attributed to Goya of “Mariano Luis Urquijo”, to the Catalonian painter Francisco Agustin Grande (1753-1801). Grande was known as a modest, scornful painter of excesses who was also a stupendous interpreter and copier of the great Aragones’s work. The Academia owns four authentic Goya works of art. Another surprising discovery is the attribution to Giacomo Amigoni of a portrait of “Fernando VI”, which was previously believed to have been painted by Carderera. The pictorial jewels pertaining to the Academia de la Historia are being presented in a splendid catalogue for the study of those interested. The edition has been made possible thanks to the Fundacion Ramo Araces and its president, Don Isidro Alvarez, stated the directed of the RAH, Gonzalo Anes.
