Barcelona to celebrate the third edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend
The third edition of the BGW will feature an extensive programme of exhibitions in the 23 galleries of contemporary and avant-garde art, selected by a committee of experts.

BARCELONA.- From September 28 to October 1, the third edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend will take place, the annual artistic reference in Barcelona for art lovers, collectors, professionals and artists. For four days Barcelona becomes the hub of the national and international contemporary art sector.

24 galleries join the initiative organized by Art Barcelona, the Contemporary Art Galleries Association in Barcelona, which in this third edition, positions itself as one of the reference events in the European artistic calendar.

The third edition of the BGW will feature an extensive programme of exhibitions in the 23 galleries of contemporary and avant-garde art, selected by a committee of experts. In addition, it includes to its programming the Galeria Estrany-de la Mota in homage to the recently deceased gallerist Antoni Estrany.

As parallel programme, the event offers a set of artistic interventions produced especially for BGW 2017 in unique places in Barcelona, and the exhibition D'esquenes a la galeria, a look at the private collections of gallerists participating in the Barcelona Gallery Weekend.

In addition, the BGW will have guided tours and special activities for professionals and for all citizens.

In this third edition the BGW launches an Acquisitions Programme addressed to foundations and / or private companies that commit themselves to acquire at least one of the works that will be exhibited during the event. The partners of this edition are the Blueproject Foundation and the Fundació Vila Casas.

For the third consecutive year, the Friendship Programme invite individuals to be an active part of the event through donations. Each year, a renowned artist collaborates with the BGW by giving a limited edition work expressly made for the Friendship Programme. In the previous editions, the collaborating artists were Joan Fontcuberta (2015) and Ignasi Aballí (2016), and this year we have the generous collaboration of the artist Àngels Ribé, winner of the 2012 National Culture Prize.

The BGW 2017 offers the "Compositions" programme: interventions by artists represented by the galleries selected and produced especially for the BGW. These interventions can be visited free of charge only during the four days of the event, and will be located in unique and little known spaces in the city of Barcelona.

“Compositions” was initiated and curated during the first two editions of the event by Latitudes. This year Glòria Picazo, independent curator, former director of the Art Center La Panera, and Alexandra Laudo, independent curator and director of Heroinas de la Cultura- will be in charge.

In addition, the parallel schedule of the BGW will host the exhibition D'esquenes a la galeria, an exhibition curated by Joana Hurtado that shows the private collections of gallerists participating in the BGW 2017.
