MORRISTOWN, NJ.- The Board of Trustees of the Morris Museum today announced that Carol S. Ward has been named the institution’s new Executive Director. Ms. Ward will assume her post in July of 2017.

Carol Ward is currently the Executive Director of the Morris-Jumel Mansion in New York. During her tenure, she has provided strategic, administrative, and creative oversight for a triple landmarked museum and four acre public park. Under her guidance, the Morris-Jumel Mansion has seen significant increases in its yearly attendance, fundraising initiatives, and local partnerships, all while preserving and interpreting the oldest residence in Manhattan.

Prior to becoming Executive Director, Ms. Ward served as Director of Education and Public Programs at the Morris-Jumel Mansion for five years. She also held positions at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut; the Ridderhof Martin Gallery in Fredericksburg, Virginia; and the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation.

She has lectured at the annual New York City Museum Educator's Roundtable (NYCMER) and Connecticut League of History Organizations (CLHO) conferences along with Mary Washington College, Marymount College, SUNY Purchase and the New-York Historical Society. She has recently published a book containing the comprehensive photographic history of the Morris-Jumel Mansion, and articles she has written have been published in The Magazine Antiques, The Historic House Trust journal, the American Alliance of Museums Magazine and catalogs for the Bruce Museum, the Morris-Jumel Mansion, and Keno Auctions.

Born and raised in Mamaroneck, New York, Ms. Ward has a B.A. in Art History from Mary Washington College and a M.A. in Art History from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Hunter College. She also holds a Masters Certificate in Art Museum Education from the College of New Rochelle.

“The Board of the Morris Museum is delighted to welcome Carol Ward as the Museum’s new Executive Director,” said Gerri Horn, Chair of the Board and a member of the search committee that selected Ms. Ward. “We are tremendously impressed by her achievements and we know she will bring great vitality to the Morris Museum’s mission to celebrate art, science, history, and the performing arts by providing engaging exhibitions and programs.”
