DALLAS, TX.- Astronauts and dinosaurs and one-of-a-kind minerals! Demonstrating that science spans all dimensions, the
Perot Museum of Nature of Science unveils its lineup for 2017-2018. Headlining the season are two traveling exhibitions Journey to Space (Oct. 21, 2017-May 6, 2018), which includes a full-size simulated International Space Station, and Ultimate Dinosaurs (June 23, 2018-Jan. 6, 2019), which brings to life a new menagerie of dinosaurs discovered in the Southern Hemisphere. The 2017-2018 season also offers up a score of offerings to appease all ages and interests from a brilliant cast of National Geographic speakers, architecture tours of the building and adults-only nights, to new 3D films, family-fun Discovery Days, seasonal Discovery Camps and more.
Theres a universal fascination with space and dinosaurs, so our upcoming exhibitions should be real crowd pleasers, said Dr. Linda Abraham-Silver, Eugene McDermott CEO of the Perot Museum. For anyone who has dreamed of being an astronaut, Journey to Space will offer a chance to climb aboard a virtual orbiting space station to experience what its like to sleep, exercise, eat and even use a toilet in near zero gravity!
And the Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibition will reveal a group of new dinosaurs from tiny to towering that will help us understand why this new breed of beast is different than the dinosaurs were used to seeing in the movies, added Dr. Silver.
Plus, a stunning, 2-foot-tall alien eye specimen called The Eyes of Africa is now on permanent display thanks to philanthropist Lyda Hill. An unprecedented discovery, the specimen is not only rare and spectacular but has an intriguing back-story that began 10 years ago with a miraculous unearthing, an infamous white Mercedes, 400 diapers and a cult-like following!
JOURNEY TO SPACE (Oct. 21, 2017-May 6, 2018). Climb aboard and experience what it takes to live and work in space! This bilingual exhibition (presented in English and Spanish) is a hands-on adventure for all ages that takes guests as close to space as one can get from Earth. At 10,000 square feet, Journey to Space, presented locally by Highland Capital Management, features two massive rotating labs that provide a glimpse of what it looks and feels like to be on the International Space Station Destiny module. Check out space-tastic interactives including a robotic arm, water rockets and ion engines; a space station activity area and construction center for kids; and numerous authentic space travel and exploration objects. Journey to Space is presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota and the California Science Center with support from NASA, and requires a surcharge for members and non-members.
ULTIMATE DINOSAURS (June 23, 2018-Jan. 6, 2019). Based on groundbreaking research from scientists around the world, Ultimate Dinosaurs reveals a new breed of dinosaurs that evolved in isolation in South America, Africa and Madagascar dinosaurs that are unfamiliar to most North Americans. Presented locally by Highland Capital Management, Ultimate Dinosaurs tells the story of the break-up of supercontinent Pangaea into todays continents and the ways that continental drift affected the evolution of dinosaurs. Through hands-on activities and augmented reality technology, guests will discover that an amazing diversity of species evolved as a result of this phenomenon. Presented in English and French (with a Spanish audio guide available), Ultimate Dinosaurs is presented by the Science Museum of Minnesota and requires a surcharge for members and non-members.
