Frank Press receives Red Dot for high design quality
Swedish publishing house is awarded Red Dot for its very first publication.

STOCKHOLM.- The jury for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 has made its decision. In a process spanning several days the 24 experts assessed communication and creative works from agencies, designers and companies from 50 participating countries. Swedish publishing house Frank Press has cause for celebration: the jurors awarded the Red Dot for BSK 50, a booklet produced and published by the recently established Stockholm company. BSK 50 is Frank’s very first publication.

BSK 50 was designed by Frank’s co-founder and Art Director, Igor Kazakov. It covers the 50 year career of architecture practice BSK, an office renowned for its rational buildings for Swedish government institutions. The same pragmatism characterises BSK 50, explains Mark Isitt, Frank’s publisher and co-founder.

”Instead of a gold-plated foil, the booklet is reminiscent of a simple file folder,” says Isitt. “In the folder, texts and images appear almost randomly collected, images overlap, text flows over images, contrasting paper qualities mix.”

”But the structure soon becomes clear to the reader,” says Kazakov.

”The project descriptions are sandwiched between extended interviews with the office’s seniors and juniors. A colourful column presenting all employees runs through the whole publication as a sort of backbone. Facts and figures are presented in easily accessible graphs and diagrams. A highly minimalist design motto has resulted in a maximalistic expression.”

The award ceremony for the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017 will take place on 27 October.

About: Frank Press was founded in 2016 by journalist Mark Isitt and graphic designer Igor Kazakov. The award winning booklet BSK 50 covers the 50 year career of BSK Architects. Here the employees themselves recall the decades working for the Royal Swedish Building Agency, the brutalist 1970s, as well as the 90’s sudden demands on spectacular brand architecture. BSK 50 is Frank Press’s first publication.
