Fine Asian antiques and California fine art lead Clars October 15th auction
A selection of highly sought after huanghuali furniture will be offered. Estimate: $8,000 - $12,000.



OAKLAND, CA .- Clars Auction Gallery will present their monthly auction of Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, Jewelry/Timepieces and Asian Art Auction on Sunday, October 15th at their Oakland (CA) gallery and saleroom. Featuring over 700 lots, the sale will be highlighted by exceptional Asian offerings as well as important California fine art, a 2017 Mercedes Benz, and several special collections including a large U.S. Coin collection.

Highlights in Asian Art and Antiques
A Chinese bamboo and wood brush pot will lead this category’s offerings coming to the sale with an estimate of $25,000 - $45,000. The brush pot is finely carved with a village scene and scholars enjoying a mountain landscape.

A selection of highly sought after huanghuali furniture will be the next highlight with the key piece being a side table with carved dragons that is estimated at $8,000 - $12,000.

A Chinese overlaid lacquered hanging panel featuring scholar’s items and comprised of different materials including jade and bamboo, is expected to fetch $7,000 - $10,000. Rounding out the highlights will be an assortment of Chinese cermaics, including a celadon glazed ceramic tripod censer, underglaze blue porcelain items including ko-sometsuke dishes.

Highlights in Fine Art
A rare oil on canvas by Thomas Hill (American, 1829-1908) will take the lead in this category. Titled San Mateo Marsh, this work will be offered with an estimate of $10,000 - $15,000.

Following the exceptional price of $102, 850 achieved on Albert Bierstadt’s (American, 1830-1902) Passing Clouds Over Mountains at their September sale, Clars is please to offer another work by Bierstadt titled Yosemite Stream. This charming oil on paper (laid down on board) will be offered for $10,000 - $15,000. Carrying the same estimate will be a dramatic landscape by Elmer Wachtel (American, 1864-1929) titled Mountain Vista.

Highlights in Decorative Arts & Furnishings
Collectors of exceptional memorabilia will be drawn to this sale. Among the highlights is a rare U.S. Centennial parade flag, 1887-1876, that will be offered for $4,000 - $6,000.

For serious car collectors, a featured item of the sale will be a 2017 Mercedes Benz E 300 (approx., 2900 miles) complete with full luxury package that will be offered for $45,000 - $50,000.

Exciting for numismatic collectors, there will be a large collection of U.S. silver coins, pre-1964, including silver and Morgan and Peace dollars as well as a large collection of U.S. commemorative coins.

For nautical collectors, a highlight will be a ship’s binnacle, the compass marked A. Lietz Co., San Francisco. For cable car collectors there will be a wonderful collection of scratch built San Francisco cable cars by George Rahilly. For piano collectors, a selection of three pianos will be offered including a Steinway and Sons grand player piano, 1915.

Rounding out this category will be a collection of collection of porcelains including a Meissen partial gilt and polychrome decorated centerpiece, 19th century, and a selection of Continental porcelain figural groups including English Bow and French Orleans examples, 18th century.

And for those looking to travel in style, a Louis Vuitton traveling vanity set would tuck nicely into a suitcase.

Highlights in Jewelry & Timepieces
Timepieces will lead this category with an 18k gold Patek Philippe Calatrava wristwatch (Re. 565) that will be offered with an estimate of $9,000 - $13,000. Another fine timepiece will be a Rolex DateJust stainless steel wristwatch that is estimated at $3,000 - $5,000.

In fine jewelry, a diamond and platinum ring with total diamond weight of 2.14 cts, is expected to sell for $5,000 - $7,000 and an Edwardian, sapphire and platinum circle pendant-brooch caries a total diamond weight of 2.50 cts.
