NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announces Fall Classics, a series of sales comprised of Antiquities, Old Masters, and 19th Century European Art, that align with the TEFAF art fair in New York for a second year. Auction highlights include paintings by, Vigée Le Brun, Jacques-Émile Blanche and Albrecht Bouts. Sculptural highlights include an Egyptian greywacke portrait head of Amenhotep III from the estate of William Kelly Simpson, the world-renowned Egyptologist, and a Roman marble portrait head of the empress Livia. The exhibitions at Christie’s Rockefeller Center Galleries open to the public for the Antiquities auction on October 20 and Old Masters and 19th Century European Art on October 27.

ANTIQUITIES | October 25 at 10am
The Antiquities sale offers works of art from across the ancient Mediterranean world, including ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, ranging in date from 2300 B.C. to the 7th century A.D. Featuring an impressive selection of ancient Greek vases, busts of ancient rulers, panoplies of armor, and limestone reliefs, highlights include a striking portrait head of Amenhotep III, an exceptional Roman torso of Venus, and an important Roman marble portrait head of the Empress Livia.

OLD MASTERS | October 31 at 10am
Among the highlights of the Old Masters sale are Vigée Le Brun’s Portrait of the Artist, bustlength, Greuze’s La Rêveuse (The Dreamer), van Delen’s An architectural capriccio with figures promenading and boys arguing over a game of skittles, and Constable’s Study of clouds over a landscape. The sale offers exciting rediscoveries like Bouts’s powerful The head of Saint John the Baptist on a charger and a strong selection of Dutch and Flemish still lifes by Daniel Seghers, Hubert van Ravesteyn, Cornelis de Heem, and Edwaert Collier.

19th CENTURY EUROPEAN ART | October 31 at 2pm
Led by Jacques-Émile Blanche’s Henriette Chabot au Piano, the 19th Century European Art auction offers a strong selection of fresh to the market paintings, works on paper, and sculpture by leading artists who reflect the extraordinary diversity of this pivotal period of art history. Additional highlights include John Atkinson Grimshaw’s A Moonlit Lane, a selection of three works by William Adolphe Bouguereau from a royal collection, and Gustave Moreau’s Le triomphe de Bacchus. There is a strong group of paintings by the Barbizon painters, including works by Charles-François Daubigny, Théodore Rousseau, and JeanBaptiste-Camille Corot, as well as a selection of sporting paintings led by works by the 20th Century’s greatest English sporting artist, Sir Alfred James Munnings.
