OAKLAND, CA.- On Sunday, December 9, 2012,
Clars Auction Gallery will offer the exceptional collection of Southwestern art from the Estate of Bob Langell of Oakland, California. Langell, an avid collector of southwestern art, owned New Mexico Art Supply in Albuquerque (NM) where he developed relationships with many of the artists he collected. Langell also owned California Art Supply in Oakland (CA) until his retirement ten years ago.
Among the highlighted works from the Langell Estate will be Spur Line (Las Vegas, New Mexico), 1938, by Howard Schleeter (American, 1903-1976). One of eight of Schleeters works to be offered, this 24 by 30 oil on canvas is estimated at $8,000 to $12,000.
From Raymond Johnson, (American, 1891-1982), will be his oil on board entitled Arroyo 4, 1922, which measures 21.25 by 15. One of two of his works to be offered, Arroyo 4 is being offered for $8,000 to $12,000.
Coming to the block from George Dick (American 1916-1978) will be Flying Ducks Maroon, (one of three to be offered) with an estimate of $1,500 to $2,000 followed by Taos in Winter,, an etching by Gene Kloss (American, 1903-1996) which is being offered for $1,000 to $2,000.
In addition, Clars will also be offering a mixed media on wood wall relief by Larry Pirnie (American, b. 1940) coming from a Las Vegas Private Collection. Entitled Feedin the Horses and Shootin the Bull, 1990, this impressive work measures 52 by 86 and is being offered for $8,000 to $12,000. (Provenance note: this work is not part of the Estate of Bob Langell).
Also to be offered from another collection will be important Western photography offerings. Of note to be offered will be a gelatin silver print (one of three to be offered) entitled Mendehall Glacier, by Brett Weston which carries a $7,000 to $9,000 estimate. From Ruth Bernard will be her gelatin silver print entitled Lifesavers, which is being offered for $3,000 to $5,000.
Clars December Fine Arts sale will be held Sunday, December 9th at 10am in conjunction with their two-day Antiques and Estate Sale. A complete catalog of all lots to be offered will be available online one week prior to the sale.
