NEW YORK, NY.- Sotheby's announced that August Uribe has rejoined the auction house as Vice Chairman, Americas.
August was formerly with Sothebys Latin American and Impressionist & Modern Art departments over a 22-year tenure that began in 1991. In 2014, he joined Phillips auction house as Worldwide Co-Head of Contemporary Art. His new role at Sothebys will call upon this cross-category expertise as well as his international network of clients.

August Uribe began his career at Sothebys in 1991, when he joined as Director of the Latin American Art department. He held numerous key positions throughout his original 22-year tenure here, including: Director of Business Development for Latin America, Managing Director of Fine Arts for Sothebys West Coast Operations, and Head of our Impressionist & Modern Art Day Sales in New York.
In 2007, August Uribe joined to Sothebys Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale team as a Senior Specialist. He began at Phillips auction house in 2014 as Worldwide Co-Head of Contemporary Art, and departed as Deputy Chairman, Americas.
Highlights across his time at Sothebys include such high-profile auctions as The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney, the IBM Collection, the Collection of Royal S. Marks, the Collection of Samuel and Luella Maslon and the Phillip and Muriel Berman Collection, among others.
August Uribe has always been active in the non-profit sector for the arts. In 1993, he was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Mexican Cultural Institute of the Consul General of Mexico in New York and in 1998 was named to the Visual Arts Board of the Americas Society in New York. In 2000 he was appointed as Trustee of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. In 2010 August, joined the board of directors for Independent Curators International, a non-profit organization based in New York.
A graduate of Princeton University, August Uribe is also an experienced auctioneer. He conducted Sothebys Latin American Art sales beginning in 1998 and our Day Sales of Contemporary and Impressionist & Modern Art starting in 2002.
