LONDON.- Einstein's letters to his lifelong friend and collaborator Michele Besso (1873-1955) contain discussions on special and general relativity, the cosmological constant, quantum theory and unified field theory. Part II comprises some previously unpublished material, including letters to Besso’s family and to their close friend, the toxicologist Heinrich Zangger. Estimates range from $600-20,000.

THE LURE OF NAPLES: A PRIVATE COLLECTION OF ITALIAN VIEWS

Collected by a private couple over four decades, this online sale comprises over 60 drawings, offered across 40 lots, presenting views of Italian cities, principally of Naples and its surroundings, and genre drawings. Italy’s riches fascinated students, connoisseurs and artists alike, who brought home treasures bought during their travels in increasing numbers from the nineteenth century when large-scale rail transport enabled more widespread access. Estimates range from £500-20,000.

THE ASTOR COLLECTION FROM TILLYPRONIE, ABERDEENSHIRE PART II

The Astor Collection from Tillypronie, Aberdeenshire offers the finest collection of sporting and ornithological art to come to the market in over 20 years. Reflecting the Astor family’s thoughtful collecting interests, this online sale includes a comprehensive selection of works by ornithological artists Archibald Thorburn and George Edward Lodge, alongside younger artists such as Claire Harkess, Steven Porwol, Darren Woodhead and Jonathan Sainsbury. Estimates range from £200-15,000.

SCRIPT AND ILLUMINATION: FEATURING THE KARL AND ELIZABETH KATZ COLLECTION

Led by the Karl and Elizabeth Katz Collection, Script and Illumination features a range of Medieval and Renaissance European, Indian and Iranian manuscripts. Highlights include work by renowned illuminators, such as Niccolò di Giacomo da Bologna, Pacino di Buonaguida and the Master of the Brussels Initials, as well as leaves from the ‘Ghistelles Hours’ and the Chester Beatty Bible.

Works from the Karl and Elizabeth Katz Collection will be on view in Christie's New York galleries 28 November - 6 December. Estimates range from $300-30,000.

ARTS OF THE SAMURAI: THE DOLPHYN COLLECTION
6 December - 13 December

The collection of samurai art amassed by the late Willem Dolphyn (1935-2016) encompasses suits of armour, helmets and masks, as well as swords with elaborate lacquer mounts, sword fittings and other samurai accoutrements; displaying the warriors’ history through works of extraordinary craftsmanship and exquisite design. Estimates range from £200-10,000.

FIRST OPEN | POST-WAR & CONTEMPORARY ART
7 December - 14 December

First Open comprises over 200 lots, including paintings, sculpture, works on paper and photographs, by emerging and established artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Grotjahn, Keith Haring, KAWS, Takashi Murakami and Andy Warhol. It also offers important examples from the collections of Elizabeth Brooke Blake, Irving Stenn, Dr. Benjamin and Dr. Gloria Engel, and the Rothschilds, among others.

Works will be on view at Christie's New York galleries 9-13 December. Estimates range from $200-200,000

Damien Hirst: 3,575 ½ Spots (and Three Small Mickeys) features over 35 works on paper with his iconic dot forms; including some of the earliest spot prints published by Eyestorm, to his large-scale etchings published by Paragon Press, to his more recent whimsical Mickey screen-prints.

Works will be on view at Christie's New York galleries 9-13 December. Estimates range from $800-40,000.
