NEW YORK, NY.- Sotheby’s announced that Brooke Lampley has joined our Fine Art Division as Vice Chairman.

Brooke Lampley most recently served as Head of the Impressionist & Modern Art Department at Christie’s Americas – a role she assumed in 2012, after working with the department as a Specialist since 2005. As Department Head, Brooke was responsible for driving the team’s overall strategy in both auction and private sales, and leading specialists devoted to business-getting on a global level.

Amy Cappellazzo, Chairman of Sotheby’s Fine Art Division, said: “I’m thrilled to be working again with Brooke, whose expertise across the 20th century and keen understanding of market tastes and trends will be major assets for the Fine Art Division. Together with our widely-respected global team, led by Helena Newman and Simon Shaw, Brooke’s appointment further enhances Sotheby’s leadership in the market for Impressionist & Modern Art.”

Valentino D. Carlotti, Sotheby’s Global Head of Business Development, commented: “Brooke has distinguished herself immensely throughout her career, and will no doubt continue her successes here at Sotheby’s. She brings with her an extensive network of collectors from around the world, and I look forward to working with her to connect those clients with the very best in fine art.”

Brooke Lampley, Vice Chairman of Sotheby’s Fine Art Division, remarked: “I’m excited to work with Sotheby’s international team to bring the best examples of 20th century art to the market. It’s a dynamic time in our field – there are still iconic examples by Modern masters remaining in private hands, and the insatiable demand to acquire such pieces at the highest levels of the market continues to drive record results.”

Brooke Lampley brings an updated perspective on the market, combining her academic knowledge and tenure in the field with a contemporary taste and instinct for trends. Throughout her tenure at Christie’s, she played a central role in securing a number of notable consignments, including: Claude Monet’s Meule, sold for the artist’s auction record of $81.5 million in 2016; Basquiat paintings from The Collection of Johnny Depp; a preeminent collection of Cubist works on paper from The Melamed Family Collection; The Estate of Edgar Bronfman; and Kandinsky’s Studie für Improvisation 8 from the Volkart Foundation that realized $23 million – a world auction record for the artist at the time of its sale in 2012. She also led the team's collaboration on notable curated sales such as Looking Forward to the Past and The Artist's Muse.

Recognized in both Crain's 40 Under 40 and Art + Auction's annual Power List, Brooke has also been featured as a tastemaker in various high-profile news publications, including Harvard Magazine, Elle, Gotham Magazine, Town & Country and Marie Claire. She is a regular contributor to broadcast television shows including NBC’s The Today Show, FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney & Co and CNBC’s Million Dollar Minute, and has appeared on Bloomberg’s Taking Stock with Pimm Fox (TV), Bloomberg Surveillance (radio) and Masters in Business (podcast).

Prior to joining Christie's, Brooke worked in curatorial departments at The Fogg Art Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and both The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She holds a Master of Arts degree in History of Art from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and History of Art from Harvard College.
