LONDON.- Francis Sultana has been announced as an ambassador of culture for Malta. Raised in Gozo and now London based, Francis Sultana set up his eponymous studio in 2009 to create interiors for many of his major art collector clients. The atelier and showroom are based in St James's, London, in the same building as the international design and art gallery, David Gill, of which Sultana is also Artistic Director.

Francis says: "To be honoured by my home country in this way is a very proud moment for me, something I could only have dreamt of as a child growing up in Gozo. I have worked hard to establish my career over the past twenty five years and I am delighted that I am able to continue supporting Malta to establish herself on the global map as a new hub for contemporary art and design. I will work tirelessly to ensure that Malta attracts the best artists, designers and architects, collaborating with other cultural institutions globally, both during this year of Valletta2018 and moving forwards as we build MICAS, our incredible new museum. I want our future generations to have access to the best the creative world has to offer, right on their doorstep, so they know that their dreams can truly become realistic ambitions."

The role as an ambassador of culture for Malta honours Sultana's work in helping Malta position itself on the international map for contemporary art and design and will see Sultana continue to attract cultural institutions to Malta during Valletta2018 and onwards. Last year Francis was pivotal in securing Malta's triumphant return to the Venice Biennale, where he hosted a reception for the country's pavilion. Francis sits on the board of MICAS, Malta's new museum for contemporary art and design which opens in 2021 and will house Malta's contemporary art & design collection.

Francis Sultana is a judge of both PAD and Masterpiece fairs in London and Paris. He is an advisor to the NSPCC Rebuilding Childhoods and he co-founded the Design Fund for the Victoria and Albert Museum with Yana Peel, CEO of Serpentine Galleries and Ben Evans, founder of London Design Festival. He now sits on the International Council for the museum. As Artistic Director of David Gill Gallery, Francis Sultana has overseen the careers of many of world's biggest names including Zaha Hadid, Frederikson Stallard and Mattia Bonetti, curating their iconic design collections. Under his own brand, he is the favoured interior designer for international collectors, many of whom have major contemporary art and design collections. Loved for his unique ability to merge the residential requirements of a domestic space with often large scale visual art, sculpture and installation pieces, his studio is working on projects in the UK and across Europe as well as in the United States of America.
