NEW YORK, NY.- Jack Resnick & Sons announced today that it has launched a contemporary art exhibition inside its newly-redesigned lobby at 315 Hudson Street, a distinctive class A property located in the heart of New Yorks dynamic Hudson Square neighborhood.
The exhibition, which is open to the general public, features works entitled E Pluribus by British-born visual artist Muriel Stockdale, and Reef by Brooklyn-based light sculptor Jason Krugman. Both are currently on display inside the lobby at Resnicks 500,000-square-foot neoclassical office building.
Upon entering the space, guests will encounter eight handcrafted American flag tapestries on each side of the lobby, as well as a cascading, 10-by-10 LED light installation behind the lobby desk. Stockdales inspiring flags are the first of the buildings rotating installation, while Reef is Krugmans first permanent piece in Manhattan.
Our art exhibition is a perfect complement for our new lobby, which was designed to be modern, interactive and dynamic, said Jonathan Resnick, President of Jack Resnick & Sons. Jasons hanging LED mobile will to inspire our creative and technical tenants and visitors, and Muriels flag mosaics are incredibly inspiring, and speak to the rich diversity and fabric of our country.
The completion of the buildings new expanded lobby is part of companys ongoing, $65 million redevelopment of the entire property. Designed by FXCollaborative, the lobby features a new glass entry, concierge desk and new security turnstiles.
Resnick is now entering the second phase of the redevelopment plan for the building, which will include the conversion of the existing rooftop into a new 10,000 square foot landscaped green roof that will have both indoor and outdoor space for building tenants. The entire project is slated for completion in 2019.
Given that more than 50,000 people work in advertising, design, media, communications and technology sectors in Manhattans Hudson Square district, the area reigns as a top destination for the creative industry. Over the past decade, Jack Resnick & Sons has helped usher in a new era for the neighborhood. In 2008, the firm embarked on a $40 million redevelopment of 250 Hudson Street, a former printing building that was repositioned as a modern class A office property. Today, the companys success at 315 Hudson Street is evidenced by two major tenants that have recently signed leases at the building, including Galvanize Inc., an innovative teach learning community, which recently established its first East Coast campus on the second floor of the building; and Bed Bath & Beyond, which will occupy the entire fourth floor to house its creative team.
E Pluribus is part of an ongoing project that explores the concept of patriotism and diversity in America. Using fabric and a variety of natural materials, each U.S. flag is handcrafted into a colorful mosaic that represents how different cultures co-exist across the country.
Krugman, who has shown his work at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The New Museum, the New York Hall of Science and others, is known for his innovative use of LED light and custom circuitry. In his newest work, Reef features 840 silicon bronze reflectors that redirect light from the sculptures LEDs, creating vibrant splashes of color that resemble tropical fish.
Throughout its existence, Jack Resnick & Sons has been a major force in the citys dynamic commercial real estate market. The firms attention to detail has given the company a reputation for creating complete environments: from a buildings foundation, to the art gracing the lobby and entrances, to the surrounding neighborhood. In addition to Reef and E Pluribus at 315 Hudson Street, Resnicks commercial real estate portfolio includes works from major artists such as Frank Stella, Charles Hinman, Yaacov Agam, Tony Rosenthal and Henry Moore.
