WOODSTOCK.- Magnificent world-class art and antiques will be on show at Blenheim Palace, who will play host to the seventh annual Cotswolds Art and Antiques Dealers’ Association (CADA) Fair, Thursday 19th April – Sunday 22nd April, this year’s theme being the 40th anniversary of CADA, celebrating the ruby and all things red.

It is the only antiques fair to take place at Blenheim Palace, home to the 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough, in the beautiful Colonnade, Orangery and Campaign Rooms, overlooking the Italian Gardens. Patron of the Association and Fair – and CADA member - is Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill, sister of the present Duke. Since its inception, the CADA Fair has gone from strength to strength, cultivating a following of collectors, art consultants, interior designers and the public alike, making it a ‘must-visit’ destination.

Over 30 dealers will bring their finest offerings to the Fair. Amongst some of the many highlights, Trinity House Paintings will bring a Lowry to the Fair: a pencil on paper At the Seaside, signed and dated L. S. Lowry 1955, as well as a rare watercolour by Giovanni Boldini, Seated Lady in a Red Cape. Gladys Deacon, who married the 9th Duke of Marlborough in 1921,was painted by Boldini in 1901. Mayflower Antiques will bring an extremely rare silver-gilt and rock-crystal standing salt from the Renaissance period, c 1550.

Another item relating to Blenheim Palace will be shown by Witney Antiques, who will bring a very early matched pair of 17th century cabinets to the CADA Fair at Blenheim Palace, one dating from 1646, the other from 1647. The cabinet dating 1647 was given as a wedding present to Consuelo Vanderbilt when she married the 9th Duke of Marlborough and it is illustrated in the Dictionary of English Furniture.

Howards Jewellers will bring many wonderful jewels, including a fine ruby and diamond bow brooch (image 2a), and Hickmet Fine Arts, specialists in Art Nouveau and Art Deco Sculpture and Glass, will bring a stunning Gallé Tulip Vase (image 5). Jenna Burlingham Fine Art will bring a Craigie Aitchison rug (image 13) featuring his beloved Bedlington terrier. ‘Bedlington in Red’ can be hung on the wall as an artwork or used as a rug. Freya Mitton will bring a fabulous painting in watercolour and gouache, The Pineapple, a red still life, (Image 7) by Mary Fedden and Sarah Colegrave will show ‘The Lady in Red’, a wonderful oil painting by Arthur Hacker. (image 8). But it’s not all just about red… There will be a wonderful pair of painted zinc statues of Hippomenes and Atalanta from Architectural Heritage and W. R. Harvey & Co will show an exceptionally fine and rare Queen Anne period "Burr Mulberry" bureau bookcase (image12b) attributed to John Coxed.

New exhibitors this year include CADA member Early Oak at Wysdom Hall specialising in early English furniture, early metalware and country clocks, as well as guests Freya Mitton, who specialises in 20th century British art and Hickmet Fine Arts, specialists in Art Nouveau and Art Deco Sculpture and Glass. Two additional dealers have been invited again this year to bring their expertise and additional contribution to the fair: silver specialist Mary Cooke Antiques and Timothy Millett who specialises in historic medals and works of art.

The very best of each discipline is represented, including furniture, pictures, silver, early needlework and antique boxes, sculpture, bronze, clocks and barometers, carpets and textiles, glass, jewellery, English and Oriental ceramics, antiquarian and rare books, garden ornaments and statuary, as well as other decorative items. All works are for sale, with prices ranging from £100 - £100,000+.
