Cataldo comes to Fotogalleriet from the position of curator at OCA – Office for Contemporary Art Norway.

OSLO.- The board at Fotogalleriet announced Antonio Cataldo as the new Artistic Director. Cataldo comes to Fotogalleriet from the position of curator at OCA – Office for Contemporary Art Norway, where he has been employed in various positions since 2010. Cataldo will take over artistic direction from Stephanie von Spreter on 1 August 2018.

“After a thorough recruitment process with strong applicants, we are proud to announce that a unanimous board welcomes Antonio Cataldo as Fotogalleriet’s next Artistic Director. Fotogalleriet has been through a period of growth and development over recent years and we are convinced that the gallery will evolve in new and interesting directions with Antonio Cataldo as artistic director. Cataldo is an ambitious, innovative and academically strong curator and we look forward to working with him in the further development of Fotogalleriet as a leading institution for camera-based art.", says Espen Gleditsch, Chairman of the Board.

Cataldo is a curator and writer living and working in Oslo. He earned his MA in exhibition studies from the Università Iuav di Venezia under the thesis supervision of Professor and Philosopher Giorgio Agamben, and a BA from Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli. In parallel with his curatorial work, Cataldo has been working on a PhD at Zurich Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) since 2016.

Whilst working at OCA Cataldo has been involved curatorially, as well as in research and production of a number of prestigious exhibition projects and discursive events at OCA's own premises in Oslo and at institutions in Norway and abroad – including Norway's contribution to the Venice Biennale.

Some of the notable projects Cataldo has been involved with are: the exhibition Let the River Flow. The Sovereign Will and the Making of a New Worldliness (2018); the project Thinking at the Edge of the World. Perspectives from the North (2015-); and Camille Norment's exhibition Rapture at the Venice Biennale (2015), among others. He was the curator for the exhibition and talk series Alexander Kluge. Raw Materials: Present Impressions, Past Wishes and Future Fulfillment (2014).

Prior to his engagement at OCA, Cataldo worked as a Teaching and Research Associate at the Università Iuav di Venezia, as Associate to Curatorial Projects at Fondazione March in Padua, and was the co-founder of the experimental collective Intorno Group in Venice.

Fotogalleriet was founded in Oslo in 1977 and has since been a leading non-profit gallery for camera-based contemporary art, through exhibition programming, discursive events and publications – both in Norway and internationally.
